Members of UCC’s commerce and cancer societies have this week been raising funds and awareness for Breast Cancer Ireland’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Set up on the college campus, members of both societies, all dressed in pink, handed out free pink candy floss, Red Bull, and sweets, as well as leaflets aimed at heightening awareness of the condition.

Jordan O’Rourke from the Commerce Society said the annual event was about raising awareness as much as it was about raising funds. That said, last year the campaign had raised €1,500 with students were hoping to better that sum this year.

“We had a talk with Juliette O’Connell from Breast Cancer Ireland. She comes in every year and tells her story of breast cancer, talking about how to find the symptoms and what to do if you do get breast cancer,” he said.
