Arpit Shukla
Biography
Dr. Arpit Shukla, a Marie Curie Fellow on the INSPIRE programme at University College Cork, is conducting his research in the Tangney lab (CancerResearch@UCC). His project "EPS-producing Bugs as Drugs" focuses on utilizing microbial exopolysaccharides (EPS) to develop novel treatments for diseases like cancer and diabetes. Dr. Shukla’s expertise in microbiology, honed during his Ph.D. at Gujarat University, where he researched the application of bacteria from radionuclide-contaminated environments, uniquely positions him to contribute to this innovative field.
With over 40 peer-reviewed publications and multiple academic and research awards, including gold medals in his Bachelor’s and Master’s
programs, both in Microbiology, Dr. Shukla brings a wealth of knowledge to his work at UCC. His prior experience as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Advanced Research (India) further highlights his academic leadership, research excellence and commitment to advancing microbiological science. He is also currently serving as a guest editor in Frontiers of Microbiology (ARTEMIS Special Issue) and other international peer-reviewed journals.
Now working within APC Microbiome Ireland interdisciplinary research environment, Dr. Shukla is poised to make impactful contributions to cancer therapy by exploring how engineered bacteria can serve as bio-factories for precision-targeted treatments.
