Chondrites

How to recognise them

Often preserved as a striking branching pattern on rock surfaces.

Fossil Info

These branches are trace fossils and are the burrows of tiny ancient worms that lived in fine silty mud on the seafloor.

Fun Fact

Chondrites are good indicators of stressful environments, for instance where the sea was very stormy or low in nutrients.
