Fossil Info

Partial fossil fragments of fossil fish have been found on the western end of the Iveragh Peninsula in Co. Kerry. These fish evolved during the Devonian period over 400 million years ago. This was a type of placoderm fish that had an armoured head. Bothriolepis grew to a length of 50 cm. 

 

Fun Fact

The evolution of lots of differents types of fish during the Devonian period has led to this time being referred to as the 'Age of the Fishes'.
