My experience completing a master’s degree in Sustainable Development, Agri-Food, and Co-operatives at University College Cork was transformative, equipping me with a diverse skill set and deeper knowledge in agriculture, policy, and energy. The program’s flexible structure allowed me to tailor assignments to my personal interests, particularly renewable energy, making the learning experience relevant to my career goals.

One highlight was a group project on an offshore wind energy co-operative in Denmark, which provided valuable insight into how co-operative models can support renewable energy development. Additionally, I had the opportunity to undertake my placement with the FDC Group, whose academic scholarship made the master’s program financially accessible. During this placement, I pursued research exploring the dynamic relationship between agriculture and renewable energy, further broadening my understanding of sustainable practices.

Today, I’m able to directly apply the knowledge and skills I gained during the program and my placement in my role as a Graduate Policy Analyst at Wind Energy Ireland.

This master’s course has given me a valuable perspective on exploring a sustainable future through the agri-food sector, cooperative systems, and work placement opportunities within Irish society. As an international student, I have not only gained a wealth of knowledge but also had the privilege of experiencing Irish community culture firsthand. My UCC classmates and tutors have been incredibly generous in sharing their resources and experiences with me, fostering a sense of love and belonging. Being part of this program and studying in Ireland has been an amazing experience for me!
