ASSERT Centre Delivers High-Fidelity Pre-Hospital Simulation Training

The ASSERT Centre at University College Cork hosted an advanced simulation training programme with West Cork Rapid Response, led by Dr. Jason van der Velde, to enhance emergency care skills among paramedics and EMTs. Using ASSERT’s high-tech simulation suite and a 270-degree video wall, participants practiced critical care scenarios in realistic, location-based environments, strengthening clinical readiness and decision-making.
The ASSERT Centre at University College Cork proudly hosted a high-fidelity simulation training programme in collaboration with West Cork Rapid Response this week. The session was expertly led by Dr. Jason van der Velde, an experienced emergency medicine consultant and pre-hospital care specialist.
The immersive training brought together paramedics, advanced paramedics, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), and paramedics-in-training for hands-on scenarios focused on critical care. Participants engaged in complex simulations involving critically ill patients, labour emergencies, and neonatal care reflecting real-life challenges faced by frontline responders.
The training took place in ASSERT’s cutting-edge simulation suite, featuring a 270-degree video wall. This advanced technology allowed for the creation of highly realistic pre-hospital environments based on actual locations across Cork city and county. By simulating familiar yet high-stakes settings, the programme enhanced the readiness and decision-making skills of emergency teams.
ASSERT’s continued investment in immersive medical education reinforces its mission to improve clinical training outcomes and ultimately, patient safety.
