People with Aphasia in Research

People with aphasia are experts in their own health condition. However, they are often left out of research even when the research is about stroke.

This systematic exclusion of a group of people based on their disability is discriminatory and it is unethical to exclude people with aphasia because it’s more challenging to include them.

People with aphasia can give Informed Consent and fully participate in the research process as Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) experts and as participants.

If people with aphasia are not included in research and the research findings have social influence, then it could result in health and social inequalities.Listen to this video.
