Andreas Ruschhaupt has been invited to a research visit by Thomas Busch to the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST, Japan) from 02 June until 13 June 2025.

Andreas is going to work with Thomas and the members of his research group on new application of Shortcuts-to-Adiabaticiy techniques to control many-atom systems in a fast and robust way.

During this research stay, Andreas has also given a seminar talk on "Enhanced Shortcuts to Adiabaticity: Quantum Control and Quantum Thermodynamics" on 4 June.

Cyrian is going to finish his internship soon. 

We are welcoming Angie Daniela Guzman Franco, a 3rd year Physics student, who has started a 4 weeks summer research project in our group.

Andreas has been invited by Almut Beige to visit her research group at the University of Leeds (UK) from Tuesday,  6 May, until Friday, 9 May 2025.

We had a group social gathering on Thursday evening, 20th March, at the Franciscan Well to welcome again visitors Ruijin and Cyrian.

Cyrian Jacquot is studying in the Université Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier (France).

We welcome Ruijin Sun from the Northeast Normal University (China).

Ruijin has just started as a visiting PhD student in our research group.

Ruijin will work on the "Quantum Control of Giant Atoms by photonic waveguide".

Her stay in Cork is funded by the Chinese Scholarship Council.

Andreas has done a research visit to the University of the Basque Country (Bilbao, Spain) from 1-7 December, 2024. 

The computing server, codename "Monster 2" (on top in the above picture), has become a new member of our research group, in addition to the already existing computing server, codename "Monster 1" (bottom in the picture).

Andreas attended the IBM-TCD joint workshop on recent advances in quantum computing in the Trinity's Ideas Workplace in Dublin on Friday, 1 Nov 2024. The workshop included talks on recent advances in quantum information theory, quantum simulations and machine learning.

We said "goodbye" to Jing and had a celebration in the Franciscan Well Brewery on Thursday evening, 10th October.

With pizzas and pints, we wished Jing all the best for her future and we hope to see her back in Cork again soon.

Andreas gave a presentation with the title "Time, a Snake who ate an Elephant, a Race and Quantum Theory" to the UCC Physics and Astronomy Society on Wednesday, 9 October.

From 23-27 September, Jing did two research visits to Spain.

Andreas has attended the international conference on quantum technology QTech 2024 from 10-12 September in Berlin (Germany) (https://premc.org/conferences/qtech-quantum-technology/).

During the conference, he also gave an oral presentation on the latest results of the SFI Frontiers for the Future Project "Shortcut-Enhanced Quantum Thermodynamics".

Today, on Thursday, 15 August, Yueli Zhang has started her summer research project in our group.

Our paper on "Twist-and-turn dynamics of spin squeezing in bosonic Josephson junctions: Enhanced shortcuts-to-adiabaticity approach" has just been published in Physical Review A 110, 022610 (2024) Link: https://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRevA.110.022610.

This work has been done in collaboration with Vladimir M. Stojanovic (Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany). The paper emanated from research supported in part by a Grant from Science Foundation Ireland under Grant number 19/FFP/6951 (“Shortcut- Enhanced Quantum Thermodynamics”).

We had a group social gathering on Wednesday evening, 3rd July, at the Franciscan Well.

The families of Manuel and of Jing who are visiting from China joined us too as you will see in the above picture. 

Narcisa Andreea Manea Bruma started her summer research project last week in our group on Monday, 24 June.

She will work on "Enhanced Shortcuts to Adiabaticity for motional control".

Today, on 1st July was her first attendance of our group meeting, see picture above.

Andreas has attended the CAMEL XIX workshop (Control of Quantum Dynamics of Atoms, Molecules and Ensembles by Light) in Nessebar, Bulgaria from June 23 - June 28 June.  

Today, on Monday, 10 June, Conor Bradshaw has started his summer research project in our group.

Researcher Jing Li gave a talk during the "Pint of Science" event this week.  

Title: High fidelity control of a many-body Tonks-Girardeau gas with an effective mean-field approach

Our paper on "High fidelity control of a many-body Tonks-Girardeau gas with an effective mean-field approach" has been published in Physical Review Research 6, 023114 (2024). This work has been done in collaboration with Muhammad S. Hasan, Thomas Fogarty and Thomas Busch (OIST, OKinawa, Japan). The work has been started during the research visit of Muhammad S. Hasan to our research group last year. The paper emanated from research supported in part by a Grant from Science Foundation Ireland under Grant number 19/FFP/6951 (“Shortcut- Enhanced Quantum Thermodynamics”).

From 20-24 April, Andreas Ruschhaupt was invited to give a seminar talk in the Department of Mathematica in Aberystwyth University (Wales). 

On Thursday, 11 April 2024, the group celebrated Guido's Masters of Science with an evening out in Cork City centre. 

Congratulations to Guido De Rosa on his conferring of his Masters in Science (from School of Physics / College of SEFS) in UCC today, 20th March 2024. 

Our research group had its annual Christmas group meeting on Monday, 18 December.

Andreas has attended the SFI Summit 2023 from 20-21 November in the Cork Radisson Blu Hotel, Little Island. He has presented an in-person poster on results emanated from research supported by the Science Foundation Ireland under Grant number 19/FFP/6951 (“Shortcut- Enhanced Quantum Thermodynamics”).

Our paper on "Spin squeezing in internal bosonic Josephson junctions via enhanced shortcuts to adiabaticity" has been accepted for publication in Physical Review Applied. This work has been done in collaboration with Vladimir M. Stojanović (Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany) and emanated from research supported in part by a Grant from Science Foundation Ireland under Grant number 19/FFP/6951 (“Shortcut- Enhanced Quantum Thermodynamics”).

The research group and friends have been invited to an outing and lunch to Fermoy by David Rea on Saturday, 23 September.

Andreas Ruschhaupt has been invited to a research visit by Thomas Busch to the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST, Japan) starting 24 August 2023.

Muhammad Sirajul Hasan, a PhD student in the research group of Thomas Busch (OIST, Okinawa, Japan) has finished his three-month research stay in our research group on Friday, 28 July.

We had a final dinner to say goodbye to him.

Adam Luddy and Joe Cowhig has started their summer research projects in our group on Monday, 26 June. They will work for 8 weeks respectively, 4 weeks on developing new applications of Enhanced Shortcuts to Adiabaticity. 

Jing Li and Andreas Ruschhaupt attended the workshop on "Control of Quantum Dynamics of Atoms, Molecules and Ensembles by Light Workshop 2023" (CAMEL 18) in Nessebar, Bulgaria from 19-23 June 2023. Both were giving oral presentations on results of the SFI Frontiers for the Future Project "Shortcut-Enhanced Quantum Thermodynamics". 

Andreas and Jing went on a research visit to the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU, Bilbao, Spain) from 12-16 June, 2023 where they have been working there together with Evgeny Sherman on controlling a piston with a coupled Bose-Einstein condensate. 

Emma Cassou from Paul Sabatier University (Toulouse, France) has finished her three-month Erasmus internship in our research group on Friday, 26 May.

Dr. Andreas Ruschhaupt has attended the CAMEL 17 workshop in Nessebar (Bulgaria) as an invited speaker (http://camel17.quantum-bg.org/). He was giving a talk on "Enhanced Shortcuts to Adiabatcity". This conference was the first event of this normally annual workshop after a 2 year Covid break (and therefore a lot of fun!!) 

The Physics Department research group on "Quantum Control via Shortcuts to Adiabaticity" has been on a great expedition to Fermoy on sunny last Saturday, 14th May, where they have learned many interesting details on the Irish local history!

A new computing server, preliminary codename "Monster", is running now in the research group "Quantum Control via Shortcuts to Adiabaticity" led by Dr. Andreas Ruschhaupt in the Department of Physics.
