Michelle O'Driscoll, a first year PhD student in the Schools of Pharmacy and Chemistry under the supervision of Dr. Tim O'Sullivan, has been awarded the Jane Grimson Medal of Excellence for being the top ranked STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) applicant in the IRC GOIPG (Government of Ireland Postgraduate) scheme this year.

Dr Patrick O’Dwyer from the School of Pharmacy was delighted to participate in a YouTube-live webinar to provide more information and answer some frequently asked questions on the new Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Regulatory Sciences.

The School of Pharmacy, with the support of the HEA COMBINE grant and Practice Educator Co-ordinator Network (PECNET) ran a hugely successful Practice Education Conference, titled The Evolution of Practice Education: Sharing the Learning

The School of Pharmacy successfully ran its first mock Professional Registration Exam (PRE) in-house with the commitment and support of pharmacy colleagues from the community of practice, staff and the Post-graduate team. 

A Statutory Instrument has now been signed which allows for the administration of vaccinations by suitably trained pharmacy students. Working as a vaccinator is a unique experience for pharmacy students and this is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a national effort for population protection.

Congratulations to Jack Murray and other Pharmacy Students from the School of Pharmacy, UCC who are giving their time and experience this summer to support the vaccination programme.

The School of Pharmacy, OSCE course hosted by Prof Zubin Austin attended by 57 international and national delegates from across the health and social care sciences, supported by the HEA COMBINE grant.

The School of Pharmacy Team was delighted to connect with our Community of Practice during the PRE 2021 Assessor training.

Aileen is currently acting as Chief II Pharmacist in South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital, having previously been a Senior Pharmacy in Marymount University Hospital and Hospice.

Dr Teresa Barbosa from the School of Pharmacy and Dr Aimee Stapleton and Dr Cara Hueston from APC Microbiome Ireland were delighted to participate in the STE(A)M in Junior Cycle 2021 CPD Calendar programme by facilitating an online workshop for secondary school teachers, developed as part of the new STEAM curriculum Junior Cycle for Teachers. 

Dr Aoife Fleming presented research at the SPHeRE 2021 conference 23rd Feb 2021: 

A mixed methods study investigating the impact of COVID-19 on community pharmacy practice and pharmacist wellbeing.

On Monday the 8th of February, UCC Pharmacy Society held the "Perrigo Scholarships Information Evening".  This evening was to promote and inform the BPharm students of UCC about this exciting, new opportunity organised by the society in collaboration with Perrigo Company Ltd and The School of Pharmacy. 

Dr Waleed Faisal and Prof Abina Crean filed for a joint patent for new microneedle technology, which has been published by the International Bureau of WIPO on 17 December 2020 under Publication No: WO 2020/250210.

School of Pharmacy researchers Prof. Abina Crean and Dr Piotr Kowalski took part in the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition forum Molecules to Medicines: Making Vaccines during a Global Pandemic organised by SSPC-SFI Centre for Pharmaceutical Research.
