The research of UCC scientist, Dr Anne Moore and her team on creating a ‘universal’ flu vaccine features in a Health Research Board (HRB) report published today.

University College Cork researchers Drs. Anne Moore and Abina Crean, both of UCC School of Pharmacy, and Dr. Conor O’Mahony of the Tyndall National Institute, have been named as the 2012 UCC Research Team of the Year for their work on microneedle technologies. Presented on Monday 19 November at a ceremony held at the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, the award celebrates those researchers who have made ‘exceptional and very influential research contributions, pushed boundaries, enhanced knowledge and raised the national and international research profile of UCC’.

Winners of this year’s BioSciences Researcher of the Year Award at University College Cork are Dr John Woolley, Postdoctoral Researcher, Biochemistry and Fionn O’Brien, PhD student in Pharmacy at the Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre (Pictured). Both winners presented results of their current life science research projects being carried out at the BioSciences Institute in UCC. The recipients of the Award were selected on a competitive basis and the event held on 5th November last was sponsored by Roche Diagnostics Ltd whose longstanding support of this award promotes the development of excellence in scientific researchers such as these.

The School of Pharmacy at UCC hosted its annual Business Seminar for final year students on Monday and Tuesday 24 and 25 September.  This year’s seminar was sponsored by McNeil and students participated in a two day programme covering a wide range of topics which started with a presentation from Brenda Nestor of UCC Careers service on  a prescription for a great CV.
