UCC’s Dr Jane English and Dr Cathal McCarthy have been named by the Health Research Board (HRB) as “researchers demonstrating real promise” in its new Emerging Investigator Awards.

Dr Shane Hegarty has been a lecturer, researcher and student in the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience, UCC, over the past 11 years and has now taken up a position as a Research Fellow in the Department of Neurology at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Dr Hegarty speaks here about his UCC research work, future research in Harvard and the advice he would give to students considering a career in science.

Professor John Cryan, Head of the Department of Anatomy & Neuroscience and Principal Investigator in the APC Microbiome Institute, will become the first UCC scientist to be awarded the Tom Connor Distinguished Investigator Award from Neuroscience Ireland later today (August 28).

Ireland is “ideally positioned to become a global market leader in wave and tidal energy production,” according to the organiser of an international conference at UCC this week.
