Medical Graduates Association Annual Scientific Conference 2023

On Saturday 30th September, the Annual Medical Graduates Association Conference was held in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex in University College Cork.

 

The MGA Conference is a full day scientific meeting for medical alumni of UCC, with alumni of UCC's School of Medicine attending and presenting during the day.

An annual event, which is organised by the Medical Graduates Association Committee, Dr John Coulter, Chair of MGA, opened proceedings and was delighted to welcome alumni back to UCC.

It was an informative and enjoyable day and sincere thanks to our speakers and to all those who attended the conference in Brookfield.

Dr Olive Murphy, Consultant Medical Microbiologist, Bons Secours Cork and Prof Mark Corrigan. Dr Murphy gave a great presentation on the Pandemic Response from the perspective of a medical microbiologist.

Dr Cynthia Heffron, Consultant Histopathologist, CUH, Dr Áine Merwick, Consultant Neurologist, CUH, Prof Tony O'Brien, recent Chair of MGA.

Dr Taffy Mandiwanza, UCC Class of 2005. Ireland's first female Paediatric Neurosurgeon delivered a great presentation on her journey from Zimbabwe to Cork, Dublin, London and back to Dublin, gaining a medical degree, surgical training and a beautiful family along the way.
