Professor of Occupational Therapy

University College Cork (UCC) is a dynamic University comprising some 3000 staff and over 16,000 students.University College Cork wishes to recruit a highly qualified academic with the vision and drive to lead the Department of Occupational Therapy in research and curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Department of Occupational Therapy provides an innovative and challenging academic context for its staff and students. The Department, which was founded in 2003, is committed to advancing occupational science and occupational therapy research, education and practice.The first graduates from its BSc course will emerge in 2007. The Department also hosts an MSc in Advanced Healthcare Practice, a modular course designed to cater for speech and language therapists, and physiotherapists, as well as occupational therapists. The Department offers a professional doctorate in occupational therapy, and provides a supportive environment for postgraduate research students. The Department is housed in purpose-built accommodation within the new Brookfield Health Sciences complex.

The appointee must have a strong research profile, and is expected also to have an international reputation in occupational therapy, and a significant record in teaching and curriculum development.The appointee will have an ability to relate well to other professional stakeholders in occupational science and occupational therapy nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will have the skills to convey the Department’s vision, distinctive character and expertise to a range of audiences including students, the occupational therapy profession and the wider community.He/she will also have the leadership and administrative skills to develop and manage an active department.
