Postgraduate Positions, Dept. of Biochemistry
1) New methodologies for biological risk assessment of industrial chemicals
A postgraduate position is available in the Biophysics and Bioanalysis lab to work on a 3-year project funded by EPA Doctoral Scholarship Scheme 2006. The project will involve development of the new approach for risk assessment of industrial chemicals based on biological (cell and animal based) toxicity testing using optical oxygen sensing and respirometry. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research team within the Biochemistry Department, which is also part of the Analytical and Biological Chemistry Research Facility, UCC. This team is accommodated in a state-of-the-art laboratory in the new School of Pharmacy, Cavanagh Building, UCC.
Applicants must have a first or second class honours degree in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related discipline and will register for a PhD.

2) Point-of-care Immunotechnology
A postgraduate position in the Biophysics and Bioanalysis lab is available immediately, to work on an 18-months project funded by Enterprise Ireland Bioindustry-led Programme. The project, which is carried out in collaboration with four other academic and research institutions within Ireland, will involve development of advanced point-of-care diagnostic systems with fluorescent detection.
The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research team within the Biochemistry Department, which is also part of the Analytical and Biological Chemistry Research Facility, UCC. This team is accommodated in a state-of-the-art laboratory in the new School of Pharmacy, Cavanagh Building, UCC.
Applicants must have a first or second class honours degree in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a related discipline and will register for an MSc with possible progression to a PhD.
