Development of sensing systems for quality assessment of packaged foods
A postdoctoral position is available to co-ordinate and work on a sizeable 3-year project which involves the development of new systems for packaging applications (packaged foods), using quenched-fluorescence oxygen sensing approach. The project is funded by the Irish Department of Agriculture and Food and will be run in collaboration with Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences, UCC, and a number of industrial partners.
The successful candidate will join the dynamic team of the Biophysics and Bioanalysis lab at the Biochemistry Department. The lab is accommodated in the new state-of-the-art Analytical and Biological Chemistry Research Facility (ABCRF), Cavanagh Pharmacy Building, UCC.
Applicants are expected to have proven track record and managerial skills, and relevant background in areas such as optical chemical sensors and biosensors, fluorescence spectroscopy, material chemistry. Experience in related areas of analytical biochemistry and microbiology, food and microbiology, packaging science is an advantage. Attractive salary will commensurate with qualification. Anticipated starting date is October 2006.
