PhD Fellowships in the Integrative Systems Microbiology Ireland Programme

In response to Irish government funding initiatives, University College Cork and Trinity College Dublin, have joined forces to form a new International PhD programme in Integrative Systems Microbiology (http://systemsmicrobiology.ucc.ie/). This PhD programme will offer exciting opportunities for Life Science, Mathematics and Computer Science Graduates. This programme will provide excellent training for students in academic and core research skills as well as exciting multi-disciplinary projects. The programme is scheduled to commence in October 2007 (subject to a successful funding-bid outcome).Application deadline is July 23rd and short-listed candidates will be notified by August 10th.

Key features of this 4-year PhD training Programme include:

  • 1st yr focused on academic and technical training including laboratory rotations
  • Three-year supervised PhD project in internationally-recognised research groups at UCC and TCD
  • Broad range of multidisciplinary PhD projects on offer
  • Relevant courses in specialised and generic skills
  • Training opportunities in Ireland and with international partner institutes
  • International research placement in 3rd yr of programme
  • Travel awards to international conferences
  • Annual stipend of €16,000 (tax-free) plus PhD fees and a laptop computer

Applications are welcome from candidates possessing or expecting a first or upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) in any Life Sciences, Mathematical or Computer science area.
