The Department of Microbiology is a modern vibrant department with internationally recognised teaching and research programmes in the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) and the College of Medicine and Health at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The Microbiology Department, together with the Department of Computer Science and the School of Mathematical Sciences, are currently implementing a new MSc programme in Applied Science (Computational Systems Biology), which has created a teaching and research position in the interacting disciplines of bioinformatics and systems biology.
Applications are therefore invited for the above 4-year whole-time contract post in the Department of Microbiology. Applicants for this vacancy must hold a PhD degree and possess postdoctoral research experience relevant to bioinformatics and/or computational biology as evidenced by primary authored, peer-reviewed publications.
The successful applicant will be expected to play a crucial role in delivering the above mentioned MSc programme and to establish an independent, externally funded research programme in bioinformatics, computational and/or systems biology to expand the research and training activities of the Department.

Appointment will be made within the following salary scales depending on qualifications and experience. Salary scales [new entrants]: €36,500 - €59,293 Bar €64,974 - €85,592.
