Western Gateway Building - Upper 2 Floors
This project involved the fit-out of the two upper floors of the Western Gateway Building and the development of additional offices on the top floor. Over 9,500m2 of Life Sciences research laboratories, teaching spaces, offices, a cafe and ancillary research spaces were created to accommodate 350 researchers and to provide 500 teaching spaces.
The Project was funded by the HEA under PRTLI5 and the Medical Education Reform Programme (MERP).

Contractor - BAM Building.
Constructed in phases from April 2011.
Completed and occupied March 2012.
Phase 2
Contractor - Walls Construction.
Phased construction commenced November 2014.
Construction completed April 2016 and occupied April 2016.
Update
EU Innovation Commissioner, Carlos Moedas officially opened University College Cork’s flagship innovation building, Western Gateway, in a ceremony which took place on November 4th.
The Western Gateway building hosts a number of schools and research centres including Mathematical Sciences, Computer Science, Anatomy and Euroscience, as well as the Cork Cancer Research Unit and the GATEWAY UCC Incubator hub. With an investment of €112 million, the state-of-the-art Western Gateway building represents the largest capital expenditure in research infrastructure at UCC.
