New Transformer Building
In line with the Universities 10 year development programme including the extension to Student Centre, possible development of the Geography Car Park and the construction of a new Art Gallery/Restaurant in Lower Grounds, it was established that the capacity of the original east campus transformer and switchgear facility in the 'Pagoda' was not adequate. The building was also in need of replacement.
A design brief was prepared with the consultants instructed to retain the existing service in place while a new building was constructed on a site directly west of the original structure.
The new 'Pagoda' would be compartmented with the smaller area to rear incorporating the incoming (campus based) cables terminating on new switch boards. The larger 'Transformer' room has the mains cable facilities. Both areas have spare capacity to facilitate a second transformer and all necessary equipment.
