The Community

We are so lucky here in UCC to comprises of a diverse and vibrant local community, consisting of residents and students, This creates an exciting community to both live and study. UCC is a university in, of and for the community. We are always available to hear how we can partner with local community groups and individuals and UCC has a dedicated Civic & Community Engagement site to provide information on civic initiatives and community partnerships. 

Facilities In Your Community

The area surrounding UCC is abundant with local amenities for both students and residents to enjoy. Situation within a beautiful and historic part of Cork City, both the grounds of UCC and local area hosts their fair share of cafes, restaurants, shops, bank services, parks & playgrounds, gyms, clubs, medical services, pharmacies, galleries and heritage sights.

The Accommodation And Community Life Office

The Accommodation and Community Life Office (ACLO) is dedicated to the support of students and residents.  Our team is committed to aiding students in their accommodation search, answering queries around current and on-going tenancy’s, updating and maintaining UCC Student Pad, developing and maintaining strong connection with the local community,  being a point of contact for local residents and community members, organising community events such as Neighbourhood forums and responding to potential breaches of UCC student rules via Campus watch.

Neighborhood Coffee Morning

UCC Neighbourhood Coffee Morning is a monthly event held by the ACLO in collaboration with residents. This is an informal event that provides residents, staff and students the opportunity to sit down, get to know one another and enjoy a free coffee. All are welcome to the Coffee Morning with the aim being to strength community bonds and allow people the chance to meet their neighbours.

Campus Watch

UCC Campus Watch works to create a safe, secure environment for UCC students and ensure that a harmonious relationship is maintained between students and the wider community. We maintain close contact with local community groups, residents associations and community Gardai. We respond to complaints from residents and seek to encourage responsible behaviour among all our students

Key Action Areas

  • Managing and promoting Campus Watch
  • Working with Neighbourhood Watch Groups, Gardai, students and residents associations in areas of common interest
  • Promoting student safety on campus, out and about and at home
  • Responding quickly to complaints and concerns in relation to student behaviour
  • Developing strong links with community groups
  • When necessary, initiating formal student disciplinary procedures
  • Providing Mediation where necessary
