The CPD in Trauma-informed Care Programme was designed by Dr Maria Lotty (College Lecturer in Applied Social Studies). The programme was delivered by Dr Maria Lotty and Ms Maura O’Donoghue, ACE Lecturers, using an innovative delivery method combining online blended format of live lectures and pre-recorded lectures. The Programme is meeting a gap in current educational practice training for front-line practitioners working with children and families, young people, adults and/or their families who have experienced trauma. This Micro-credential, NFQ Level 9, Special Purpose Award is the only university-based credit bearing CPD course in Ireland offering practitioners the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the effects of trauma and introduce them to the application of the Trauma-informed Care approach into their practice. The Programme is practice-oriented and focuses on integrating the TARA framework (Trauma, Attachment, Resilience into Action), a practice model that was developed Dr Lotty, informed by her PhD research and the practice community of practitioners that have taken the programme.
As well as celebrating the graduation of students from the CPD Programme, the ceremony marked the completion of Phase One of the TARA Research Study ‘Examining the effects of the Graduate Trauma-informed Practice Education on Child Welfare Professionals’ commissioned by the Dublin South Central Integrated Service Area, TUSLA, Child and Family Agency.
