The STOCHASTICA SNIP seminar will be held online every two weeks starting on January 14. Talks of 30-45 minutes will be followed by 15-30 minutes of open discussion. Initially, seminars will be focused on introducing new problems and applications, to stimulate further discussions and ideas within individual working groups.

The second seminar will be given by Prof Ana Djurdjevac, University of Oxford, and chaired by Prof Sonja Cox (Leader, Working Group 2)

The Dean–Kawasaki Equation: Analysis, Numerics, and Applications
The Dean–Kawasaki equation provides a stochastic partial differential equation description of interacting particle systems at the level of empirical densities and has attracted considerable interest across statistical physics, stochastic analysis, and applied modeling. In this talk, we investigate both analytical and numerical aspects of the Dean–Kawasaki equation, with a particular focus on well-posedness, structure-preserving properties, and numerical discretization strategies. In addition, we discuss extensions of the Dean–Kawasaki equation to smooth hypersurfaces. We also discuss possible applications of the Dean–Kawasaki framework to particle-based models arising in biological systems and social dynamics.
