Cork Carnival of Science 2025
The Resilient Crop team attended the Cork Carnival of Science
The Cork Carnival of science was organised by the Cork City Council and ran on the 7th and 8th of June from 11-5pm each day.
The event aimed to get people of all ages and backgrounds involved and interested in science. For day one of this event, PhD Student Grace Hurley organised a “Crazy Grass head” activity where young children got to decorate a soil plug with pipe cleaners, googly eyes, & pom-poms, and style its grassy hair. On day two lead investigator Dr Rossana Henriques and Post-Doc researcher Dr Catherine Tucker Née Gough attended the event and allowed people to observe what plant epidermal cells look like under the microscope.
The event brought in over 25,000 people with ~60+ people an hour attending the school of BEES stand. This event was a brilliant opportunity to get young children involved in science and plant Science in particular, as well as getting to tell people about the work and research we do in the school including the ResilientCrop project.
