PhD Studentship Position Q-Fence: Horizon Europe Project

Project Title: Q-FENCE (Securing Tomorrow’s Digital Infrastructure with Quantum-Resistant Cryptography)

Applications are invited for the role of a PhD Studentship to join our research team at the nasc Research Centre, with an anticipated start date of November 2025.

The position  is for 48 months,  fully-funded PhD (Tax-free stipend of €25,000 p.a. and tuition fees covered at the EU rate,) which will be based at the School of Computer Science and Information Technology in University College Cork in nasc research centre.

We are now seeking to fill a PhD Studentship position, aligned with research area post quantum cryptography. The appointed person will be expected to make contributions to the progress of the project, working closely with the Principal Investigator Dr. Krishnendu Guha, Post-Doctoral Researchers and with academic and industry collaborators. We seek applications from candidates with expertise and interest in areas such as cybersecurity, cryptography (PQC is specific), hardware design with FPGA and ASIC. Ideal candidates will also have experience of experimental methods, laboratory testbeds and systems programming.

The PhD student will work together with Dr.Krishnendu Guha and other researchers of nasc research.

The School of Computer Science & IT (CSIT) at UCC is part of three major Irish SFI-funded research centres, CONNECT - Centre for Future Networks & Communications, Insight - Centre for Data Analytics, Lero - Irish Software Research Centre and it is also hosting two large doctoral training centres (ADVANCE and INSIGHT).

Applicants should hold a good honours undergraduate or Masters degree in computer science, computer engineering, telecommunications, or other relevant research areas. Ideally, applicants will be able to demonstrate an interest in both theoretical analysis and practical system design, with a keen interest in computer security.

The successful applicant will receive a stipend of €25,000 per annum for up to three years and an annual contribution of €5,840 towards tuition fees. Non-EU candidates may apply but they may have to cover extra fees themselves.
