Ireland and Colonial Virginia

Four hundred years ago, Daniel Gookin, Carrigaline, and William Newce, Newcestown (both in County Cork, Ireland) established the City of Newport News in Virginia, USA. In recognition of this, and supported by Cork County Council through its Commemorations Committee, Dr Hiram Morgan, School of History, University College Cork, coordinated a an online seminar on 26th November, 2020, that saw speakers from both sides of the Atlantic celebrating the connection between Cork and Virginia.
