Fossil Street Art

Fossil Street Art

Ireland’s Fossil Heritage worked with a local Cork-based artist, Tom Doig, to design a new piece of street art for Cork city centre, based on fossils!

The street art is located on a utility box at the northern end of North Main Street (GPS coordinates 51.900560 N, -8.479233 W). The art shows common fossil types in the Carboniferous limestones of Ireland (brachiopods, a gastropod and a colonial coral) and includes important fossils that you can find in cross-section in the limestone gutters and paving slabs of North Main Street itself. Can you find these fossil types?

The work was funded by Cork City Council through the Local Community Heritage Grant scheme 2025.
