How to Apply
Once applicants know which area or topic they wish to research, they then need to find supervisors. Applicants can contact one of our Departments directly to enquire about the availability of appropriate supervisors. You must choose your supervisors and discuss your research proposal with them before applying. After confirming your research area and supervisory arrangements apply online at the UCC application portal. You may be asked to fill in a proposal form, which can be downloaded here: FMT Doctoral Research Project Proposal Form.

Applications for research programmes are accepted throughout the year.
There are 4 official start dates every year – September/October, January, April, and July. You should apply at least 3 months prior to the commencement date to allow for your application to be processed and approved.

Registration
The minimum approval time for a PhD is three years full-time or six years part-time. A PhD student is required to register for the minimum period that the student was originally approved for and all current PhD students are required to register for each year until submission.
