BioFarm 2023

8 Nov 2023

Today Professor Marcel Jansen presented the Duck-Feed project at BioFarm 2023. The two-day conference focusing on organic agriculture in Ireland was organised by the National Organic Training Skillnet (NOTS). It was hosted at the Fitzgeralds Woodlands House Hotel in Adare, Co. Limerick.

In his presentation Marcel introduced duckweed and its potential applications at organic farms as part of a nutrient retention system. The work on duckweed at UCC has developed over the years as part of several projects, culminating in the current Duck-Feed project. The knowledge gathered over the years can now be tested in actual farm settings.

The sample of dried duckweed he brought along to demonstrate a potential end product also created much interest among the more than 200 attendees.

Anyone interested to know more about the role duckweed could play on an existing farm, is encouraged to contact us for a chat.
