The UNIC European Post-Industrial Cities Leadership Forum brought together representatives of cities, universities, businesses, and civil society organisations in Zagreb on July 2nd to collaborate on concrete solutions to today’s urban challenges. Participants included leaders from across the 10 UNIC cities, as well as representatives from the academic and business sectors. 

A delegation from University College Cork was delighted to represent UNIC in Maynooth on July 09-10 where Ireland’s Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, welcomed the 4th European Universities Initiative Forum to Ireland on the beautiful campus of Maynooth University in County Kildare. 

The Academia to Entrepreneurial Impact (A2EI) programme will take place again this year (Sept - Nov). It is a practical, hybrid programme designed for PhD and doctoral students who want to know more about innovation or explore the entrepreneurial potential of their research, as part of their career development journey. UNIC travel funding is available for two PhD students for the onsite training in Rotterdam.

UNICArt co-lead Dr Brice Catherin  travelled to Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, this July to work in person with two of the co-authors of his forthcoming artistic methodologies workbook. This book will offer a clear introduction to artistic methodologies, including how-to sections, practical exercises, case studies, and a broader breakdown of past and current practices in the field.

Entrepreneurial learning, arts and creativity for inclusive and sustainable urban futures.

The University of Łódź invites Master’s students and doctoral candidates from UNIC partner universities (including University College Cork) to take part in Global Minds Summer School 2026: Ideas, Disciplines, Collaboration, organised by the Doctoral Schools Centre of the University of Łódź.

Applications are currently invited for the open call for UCC Green Campus Living Laboratory funding (for demonstration projects up to the value of €5,000). The call includes projects with meaningful engagement with UNIC partners. 

This week saw a UCC delegation with representation from across the university enjoy the hospitality of our UNIC colleagues at Koç University in Istanbul. The delegation was led by UNIC UCC Director, Dr Jean van Sinderen-Law and Head of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences Professor Stephen Graham.
