UNIC has launched the latest round of two awards, the Thematic Lines Best Paper Award and Thematic Lines CityLabs Award 2027. UCC staff are encouraged to apply.

Join us for a 90-minute discussion on the links between climate change, migration, forced displacement, human rights, security, and sustainable development - hosted by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and held at UCC on September 14 at 14.00 Irish time and available via livestream across the UNIC network. 

This year's UNIC Mathematics Summer School 2026 was held from June 22-28 at University of Łódź in Poland with strong participation from UCC.

UNICArt lead in UCC, Dr Brice Catherin is an artist and postdoctoral researcher. Together with Maria Sappho, an artist and postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Huddersfield, he designed and hosted a workshop at the Rencontres Internationales de Théâtre Universitaire (RITU) in Liège in February. The event took place from February 24-28.  

On June 2nd, University College Cork hosted a training day on methods used in migration and superdiversity research under UNIC's Thematic Line 1 (Superdiversity). 

At the Good Practice Symposium at University College Cork on 19th May, three of the case study posters displayed were submissions from our UNIC partner, University of Łódź. 

Head of Buildings and Estates at University College Cork, Mark Poland, participated in the UNIC staff week which took place at University of Liège from 19-21 May 2026. Under the theme “Redesigning the Campus in the City,” the event brought together experts from partner universities to exchange ideas and best practices on shaping the campuses of the future.  

On May 4th, Dr Christie Godsmark and Master of Public Health student Kendall Visco travelled to Łódź to meet with UNIC partners on an urban greening project entitled “Greenery as a Tool for Adaptation: Socially Embedded Innovations in UNIC Cities.” 

Simone O’Rourke, Research Project Manager at UCC, attended the UNIC Staff Week hosted at University of Łódź on 5-7 May 2026 under the theme „Supporting those who support others – taking care of wellbeing and professional skills of experts”.

The UNIC European Post-Industrial Cities Leadership Forum brought together representatives of cities, universities, businesses, and civil society organisations in Zagreb on July 2nd to collaborate on concrete solutions to today’s urban challenges. Participants included leaders from across the 10 UNIC cities, as well as representatives from the academic and business sectors.
