EU Fees: The Irish/EU tuition fee level for this postgraduate programme for 2012/2013 (1 year full-time) is €5,400.00. There is also a two year part-time (by day) option for this programme and the course fee is half the full-time fee in the particular year of study - (THIS PART-TIME OPTION IS ONLY OPEN TO EU STUDENTS)
Non-EU Fees: €11,620.00 for 2011/2012. Fees for 2012/2013 will be set in March 2012.

Overview of English (HDip in Arts)

The Higher Diploma in Arts (English) is intended for those who already have a degree and who wish to study the subject intensively over one academic year full-time or two academic years part-time (by day)

The Higher Diploma in Arts is a conversion programme and applicants would not normally have studied the relevant Higher Diploma in Arts subject to honours degree level previously.

Its is aimed at graduates who may wish to be considered for a Masters programme in the subject area subsequently (but do not have an honours degree in the relevant area) or who may wish to add the Higher Diploma in Arts subject to their qualifications attainments.

Please note: The Higher Diploma in Arts programme is not a teacher training programme. Graduates must apply for the Postgraduate Diploma in Education teacher training programme to qualify as a secondary school teacher, please see www.ucc.ie/en/pec01

What will I be Studying?

The Higher Diploma in Arts shall consist of modules to the value of 60 credits taken from a range of existing Second and Final Arts modules in the relevant subject. Suitable modules as well as attendance requirements and coursework are determined by the relevant academic departments and approved by the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Science. For any given subject, the programme of study to be followed may differ for each individual student, depending on the individual's background, preferred area of specialisation etc.

The programme will be made up of modules in the subject from Levels II and III of the undergraduate BA degree.

The subject modules will be chosen by the student in consultation with Staff of the Department of English, having regard to timetable contstraints and suitability of course combinations.

Entry Requirements

It is intended for those who already have a degree, preferably in the area of Arts or the Sciences

Applicants to the Higher Diploma in Arts would not normally have studied the relevant subject to Honours Degree level previously.

The Additional/Supplementary Statement Questions MUST also be completed during the online application.

English Language Requirements:

IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL equivalent.
