Taught Students Orientation
Course-level orientation for postgraduate taught students (MA, MSc, Postgraduate Diploma, etc.) is organized by your course director. Check out the relevant prospectus page for your course director's contact details. Find your course »
There will be a Global Welcome Week for Postgraduates on 1-6 September in the Aula Maxima. All postgraduate students are welcome to attend any event, it’s not just for our international incoming students. Some of these events will be first come first served while others will require registration. Different topics will be covered every day. More details to follow.
Research Students Orientation
The Dean of Doctoral Studies, Professor Orla Lynch, hosts in-person orientation for our new Postgraduate Research Students who are registered for one of our research programmes (e.g. PhD). Normally these events take place in October and April.
The next Postgraduate Research Student Orientation will take place in person on 9 October, 9 am - 2 pm in the Aula Maxima. If you have recently commenced your research programme you will get an email about this orientation event via your UCC email. Don’t miss out – check your UCC email regularly!

Capitation Levy
Following two student referenda held by the UCC Students’ Union in March 2024, it was agreed that the Capitation Levy would increase. This levy or fee is an annual charge paid by students towards services while at UCC.
The total Capitation Levy payable by:
All Taught Students will be required to pay €207, comprised of the following
- a membership fee for the Mardyke Arena (€132)
- Union of Students in Ireland (USI) Affiliation Fee (€5)
- SU Common Rooms (€5)
- Student Media (€5)
- Sports Facilities (€50)
- Student Mental Health Services (€10)
all Research Students will be required to pay €70, comprised of the following
- Sports Facilities (€50)
- Student Mental Health Services (€10)
- Contribution to the Mardyke Arena (€10)
