UCC Societies Represented at Cork Pride 2023

6 Aug 2023

UCC Societies students were among more than 12,000 people who took part in the Cork LGBT+ Pride Parade on Sunday. This year marks UCC’s second year as an official sponsor of the festival.

On Sunday afternoon, the streets of Cork were filled with brightly coloured signs, costumes and joy to celebrate Cork’s LGBT+ community and join together to champion LGBT+ rights and equality for all. In a display of unity, UCC Societies, Clubs and UCC Students Union marched alongside the wider student body, UCC Staff and advocates, activists and friends to send a resounding message of support for the LGBTQ+ community. UCC Societies President, Chloe Boland said "Inclusion and creating a safe space for everyone to be themselves is at the heart of the work of UCC Societies. We were honoured this year to march in Cork Pride alongside UCC Students' Union and UCC Clubs. With LGBTQ+ rights being attacked around the world and so much to fight for here in Ireland, especially for our trans siblings, it is so important to remember that Pride is a Protest. It is so important that we keep fighting for queer liberation and ensuring that all students feel safe and represented on campus".
