UCC's Bystander Programme is a micro-credential programme available in UCC. This intervention programme aims to equip students to recognise their responsibility to highlight unacceptable behaviour, develop the skills to challenge unwanted behaviour, to effect pro-social behaviour and cultural change.
Sexual harassment, violence, as well as domestic / dating abuse are serious issues in society. Students experience these harmful behaviours while socialising, attending college, and in the workplace. An active bystander is somebody who witnesses behaviour which is hurtful and harmful, and who has the skills to change the outcome of the situation. These can be difficult issues to engage with, however students who complete the programme develop a greater awareness of these issues, and develop more confidence in knowing how to intervene safely.
The 5 module training is available on canvas, it is self-directed, with details of support services available throughout, and takes approx 3.5 hours to complete.
We are at a critical point in the climate crisis, but understanding the science behind climate change, and how to take action, can be challenging. UCC's Carbon Literacy course is a UCC Digital Badge and Carbon Literacy training accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project (CLP). The training is made up of 5 modules covering climate science, climate justice, carbon footprints, mitigation and adaptation, and taking action, respectively.
Through both in-person and online workshops and exercises, participants will receive a thorough understanding of the most significant aspects of climate change, and how to address it. We need informed climate activists now more than ever, and this course will equip participants with the knowledge they need to advocate for a fairer and more just world.
