Dr Carola Romani
I am a biomedical engineer specializing in designing and functionalizing polymeric and dendrimer-based systems, with a particular emphasis on fluorinated polymers for enhanced cellular uptake, gene delivery and imaging. I hold both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Biomedical Engineering, with a specialization in Cells, Tissues, and Biotechnology, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering and Industrial Chemistry in 2024, all from Politecnico di Milano.
I have authored 8 peer-reviewed publications, including studies on fluorinated dendrimers for gene delivery and a review on antibiotic–antimicrobial peptide conjugates.
In addition to my core biomedical research, I contributed to PHARPLE (sustainable PHA recovery from agri-food waste via purple non-sulfur bacteria, PRIN 2022) and SafeCREW (Horizon Europe project on climate-resilient drinking water systems), demonstrating versatility and interdisciplinary collaboration across chemical, biological, and environmental engineering contexts.
My work bridges chemistry, materials science, and cell biology, highlighting strong collaborative skills and the ability to tackle complex, cross-disciplinary challenges.
