Cell Explorers and WiSTEM UCC

15 Apr 2024

As part of on-campus activities to promote diversity, inclusion and WiSTEM (Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) opportunities, undergraduate BPharm2, BPharm3, BPharm4 and PhD students from the School of Pharmacy were involved in delivering the FANTASTIC DNA workshop to primary school students from North Presentation and Togher Girls National Schools on 27 February last.

During the workshops the children got to experience the fun of doing hands-on experiments and learned about the huge variety of careers you can have in the Life and Health Sciences.

Cell Explorers, which was established with support from the SFI-Discover Programme, were joined by the very competent committee members of WiSTEM-UCC to organise and run the event. Cell Explorers is a scientific outreach project involving lecturers and students from multiple third level institutions that aims to encourage and inspire primary school students to pursue their interests in the Life Sciences and science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

For their enthusiasm, engagement and brilliant demonstrating, sincere thanks to Pharmacy students Katie O’Flynn, Sinéad Murphy, Ruth Horan, Sarah Cooper, Gráinne Egan, Gemma Ryan, Rachel O’Sullivan, Lorna Fortune, Gráinne Spillane, Laura McCormick, Leah Murphy, Jack Mullen and Lauryn O’Callaghan.
