The School of Pharmacy, UCC is pleased to recognise two doctoral researchers who successfully defended their theses in viva voces in January and February 2026.

Dr Alexander Zhdanov, Senior Technical Officer at the School of Pharmacy, is a co-author of a new paper published in Biosensors on 14 February 2026 entitled Hybrid Oxygen-Sensing Bio-Scaffolds for 3D Micro-Tissue Models. The study was carried out in collaboration with colleagues from the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, alongside Liang Li and Dmitri B. Papkovsky.

On 20 January 2026, Cell Explorers Cork and WiSTEM UCC welcomed primary school students from Scoil Maria Assumpta and Saint Patricks Girls National School on campus where they had talks and workshops on the importance of STEM. 

Professor Caitriona O’Driscoll was invited to deliver a masterclass at the 2nd Bicyclos International School and Workshop, ‘Cyclodextrins in Health and Disease’, held in Sevilla, Spain, from 18 to 20 February 2026.

Irish researchers from St Patrick’s Mental Health Services and University College Cork are among those leading in a major international study on clozapine usage for treatment-resistant schizophrenia. 

Researchers from the University College Cork School of Pharmacy, in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, have published a study in Molecular Pharmaceutics that has been selected as ACS Editors' Choice.

Dr Michelle O’Driscoll is one of the successful co-applicant researchers from University College Cork and the National Suicide Research Foundation (NSRF) who have been central to a transformative investment in mental health announced recently by Minister for Mental Health Mary Butler.
