UCC Pharmacy Society was awarded Best Departmental Society at the Board of Irish College Societies' (BICS) national awards virtual ceremony, which was held on 29 July 2020.

Dr Teresa Barbosa and Dr Suzanne McCarthy from the School of Pharmacy and Dr Aimee Stapleton from APC Microbiome Ireland were delighted to participate in the STE(A)M in Junior Cycle 2020 CPD Calendar programme by facilitating workshops for secondary school teachers, developed as part of the new STEAM curriculum Junior Cycle for Teachers.

There was considerable success for three staff members following the announcements this week of the successful Innovative Training Networks (ITN) awarded under the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme.

This two year part-time distance learning programme run by the School of Pharmacy is recognised by various EU Regulatory Authorities as fulfilling the educational requirements for Qualified Person (QP) status as defined in EU legislation.

The School of Pharmacy welcomed over twenty first year students to the MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems orientation session today.

To be eligible to apply for this award, a student must have received first class honours in their degree and both academic distinctions and the part played in the public life of the University are taken into consideration in choosing the winner. 

New molecules, developed by researchers in UCC, have been shown to dramatically improve the effectiveness of existing antibiotics against several strains of infectious diseases and will help address the growing problem of antimicrobial resistance.

The School of Pharmacy at UCC is currently running a Summer School in Advanced Pharmacy Topics for international students from Future University in Egypt (FUE).

The School of Pharmacy was delighted to be able to participate in the first Cork Carnival of Science on Saturday, 22^nd June 2019.

Congratulations to Jacinta Walsh PhD candidate School of Pharmacy won the 1^st prize award for oral presentations at the Irish Society of Gastroenterology Meeting held in Galway on 30-31May 2019.

This public engagement event on microbes, antibiotics and antimicrobial resistance took place on 28^th April 2019, as part of the Carrigaline Community First Responders’ CPR Awareness Day.

Students of the MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems recently visited Regeneron Pharmaceuticals at Raheen in Limerick for an industrial site visit as part of their QP Masters Workshop. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals launched their Industrial Operations and Product Supply facility in Raheen in 2015 and it is now the largest-scale bulk biologics production facility in Ireland.

The School of Pharmacy, UCC is delighted to announce 4 funded PhD positions in the area of Pharmaceutics. 

We are delighted to welcome the MSc Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems (QP Masters) students to the School of Pharmacy UCC, for a 3 day end-of-semester workshop. 

The School of Pharmacy, in collaboration with UCC Pharmacy Society, hosted an industry career information event organised by PIER in the Brookfield Health Science Complex on Thursday 14th November 2019.

The official graduation of the first graduates of the new BSc Pharmacy degree was held at FUE on 22^nd September 2019. Professor John O’Halloran, Deputy President and Registrar, was invited to speak at the graduation to mark significant contribution UCC have made to enhancing the quality of the new pharmacy degree at FUE.

APC Microbiome Ireland scientists based at University College Cork have shown for the first time that a high fat “western” diet reduces the efficiency of the immune system to fight infectious disease particularly in the gut, and to infection with the foodborne pathogen, listeria monocytogenes.

Wanted: Enthusiastic, creative, and driven Ph.D. candidates with a passion for interdisciplinary science and a desire to apply their unique talents to high-impact work aimed at improving human health, to a newly established laboratory at the School of Pharmacy at UCC.

BioMedica is a biennial congress hosted by The Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine and the Royal Dublin Society in the RDS, Dublin.  

For the past three months, I have had the good fortune of working on my final year research project in the UCC School of Pharmacy under the guidance of Dr. Christian Waeber. It has been an honour to be the first student from National University of Singapore (NUS) Pharmacy to come to UCC for this newly-established collaboration.

International students from FUE have successfully completed the Industrial Pharmacy Summer School, the third Summer School run by the School of Pharmacy in UCC. The International Summer School is one element of an ongoing collaboration between UCC and FUE, whereby UCC supports the FUE in the delivery of enhanced pharmacy topics to students of FUE.

Congratulations to Prof Anita Maguire on winning the Institute of Chemistry of Ireland’s 2018 Eva Philbin Award.

Elaine was one of the 37 recipients of the Fulbright Irish Awardees for 2018-2019. Recipients were recently presented with Awards at a Ceremony in the U.S. Ambassadors Residence, Phoenix Park.

The School of Pharmacy held its 2018 Prize giving ceremony after graduation on Friday 26 October 2018.  Professor Stephen Byrne welcomed both students and their guests to the School and thanked them for supporting the students during their Pharmacy journey.

Anna Ní Raghallaigh was awarded a Student Leadership Award for her involvement in societies during her time in UCC. 

The School of Pharmacy  hosted it’s School Assembly on Tuesday 2^nd October 2018 with a focus on the theme of  Building Connection and Community. 

Congratulations to School of Pharmacy PhD Student, Kieran Walsh for winning best poster prize at the 4^th SPHeRE (Structured Population and Health Services Research Education) Network Annual Conference on Thursday 11^th January.

The School of Pharmacy, UCC and Future University in Egypt signed a co-operation agreement in 2014 which has led to the development of this Summer School.  The Summer School was attended by 26 undergraduate students from FUE who travelled to Cork to take part in the programme.  The students were accompanied by three staff members from FUE, Professor Nabila El Maraghy, Ms Dina Khaled Aboelfadl and Mr Mahmoud Fathy Ibrahim.

Applications are invited for this two-year (part-time) distance learning Masters’ Degree offered by the School of Pharmacy, University College Cork course, commencing in September 2017.

Dr James Gallagher was recently conferred with his PhD degree for a thesis entitled "Economic Evaluations of Clinical Pharmacy Services in Ireland, 2007-2015". 

As part of our mission to enhance the international appeal of our degree programme, the School of Pharmacy collaborates with the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, East Tennessee State University.

The School of Pharmacy of the University College Cork and the PEARRL EU training network jointly organised the first Regulatory Science Symposium of this kind – a unique opportunity to discuss regulatory support of innovation in Europe`s pharmaceutical industry. 

The first Annual Meeting of the PEARRL EU network is being held at the School of Pharmacy at UCC in Cork, Ireland between 19-23 June 2017. 

Last Saturday night, Professor Stephen Byrne, Dr. Abina Crean, Dr. Maria Kelly, Aoife McGillycuddy, Carol McCarthy and Gary O’Brien were representing the School of Pharmacy at the Clanwilliam Pharmacist Awards, Mansion House, Dublin.

Delighted to welcome the O’Duffy All Ireland Senior Camogie Trophy to the School of Pharmacy UCC today.

On Jan 6^th, the School of Pharmacy at UCC hosted its 8^th annual open day.  This is to give leaving cert students from around Ireland an opportunity to learn about the M.Pharm. qualification, the varied career possibilities as a Pharmacist and to experience lectures and labs in the key subject areas.

After graduating with a PhD from the Dept of Pharmacology, University College Dublin, Dr. Keely travelled to the University of California, San Diego, where he carried out his postdoctoral studies in the Dept. of Medicine.
