About this course

The course must be completed by all staff every 3 years. 

The aim of the course is to provide skills and knowledge to be proficient in manual handling operations and in doing so, to minimise the risk of injury.

Manual Handling training is delivered fully online via Microsoft Teams by Safetech, in an interactive webinar. Please note the following when planning to attend Manual Handling training:

  1. A link will be provided separately by the training provider in advance of the course. Please ensure you log on 10 minutes before the course commences so any IT issues that may occur can be dealt with
  2. Please wear comfortable clothing. No jeans, skirts or tight clothing, flat soled shoes only.
  3. You must fully participate and reach the required standard to receive certification. If there is any reason why you may be unable to participate please inform us in advance when signing up for training or shortly after signing up via the Helpdesk
  4. Ensure you are in a room with a desk or table of standard height
  5. You must have a load similar to a light box e.g. photocopying box size (max 2 reams of paper) or shoe box.

On completion of the manual handling course, participants will be able to:

  • List the key aspects of current manual handling regulations.
  • Identify and know how to prevent manual handling injuries.
  • Understand the limitations and strengths of the human body in relation to lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying etc. and sedentary work activities
  • Apply tile principles to moving and handling.
  • Lift and move objects safely contribute to the development of a departmental safety statement and manual handling risk assessments
