Course Summary

A special course in spoken Irish is available to all students of the Professional Master of Education (PME 1 and 2), BSc in Science Education (3rd and 4th years) and B Ed Sports Studies and PE (3rd and 4th years).

The aim of this course is to help PME students attain a good standard of spoken Irish and to help them to prepare for the spoken exam, the Certificate in Irish for Secondary Teachers. This is a free Department of Education exam. It takes place in Cork city every February/March.

The Certificate in Irish for Secondary Teachers is a necessary qualification for teachers who teach through the medium of Irish in Gaelcholáistí and Gaeltacht schools.

Students who have a degree in Irish do not need to obtain this certificate.
