Sylvie Campion

Senior University Language Teacher

I contribute to a wide range of language modules at all levels across the Department, as course developer, convenor and teacher.

My professional interests focus on learner autonomy, and language policy both at national and European levels. I am also interested in materials development, learning spaces and the role of extensive reading in language acquisition.

I have served as Teaching and Learning Director for the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, and as French Department Academic Year Abroad coordinator for Arts and Education Gaeilge programmes.

I am currently responsible for the Schools Outreach programme in the Department of French.

I hold degrees from the Université Rennes 2 (Lic.ès Lettres) and UCC (MA), a certification in Digital Education (UCC) and I am a qualified Language Learning Adviser (University of Hull).

Dr Anne-Pauline Crepet

University Language Teacher

I joined the French department at UCC in 2019. I hold a BA in Spanish Studies from Université de Toulouse 2, a Master’s in French as a Foreign Language from the Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO), a Ph.D. in French Studies from Durham University, and I recently completed a second Master’s in Multimodal Instructional Design at the Université de Lille.

I teach specialist students at all undergraduate levels. As part of my work on e-learning and student autonomy, I designed a grammatical remediation H5P module on Canvas for first-year specialist students.

My interests include teaching language through culture, the use of ICT in language teaching and learning, e-learning design and enhancing student’s motivation through language games.

My Ph.D. thesis (2016) is entitled : « La correspondance de la duchesse de Châtillon (1627-1695) : diplomatie au féminin au Grand Siècle »

Dr Isabelle Jouinot

University Language Teacher

Isabelle Jouinot is a Language Teacher who is currently researching language proficiency and complexity development, age, intensive exposure, multilingual education, and motivation. She teaches written and oral French to specialists and non-specialists at Undergraduate level, language teaching and learning and research methods in the MA in Applied Linguistics, and advanced French translation skills. She is also Co-Director of the MA in Applied Linguistics, and a member of the research cluster Language: Cognition, Practice, Policy and Ideology. Milouda Louh

University Language Teacher

Milouda Louh is a University Language Teacher with a professional teaching qualification and a professional translation qualification. 

She holds a Licence ès Lettres (English, Lille III University), Maîtrise ès Lettres (Speciality: French and English Linguistics; Lille III University), Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies, D.E.A. (Linguistics; Lille III University), a C.A.P.E.S. Langues modernes (Teaching Qualification equivalent to Masters in Education; Rectorat de Tlemcen, Algeria) and a Diploma in Translation, CIOL (Institute of Linguists, London). 

Her professional interests include Language Teaching and Learning Methodologies, Multilinguism, Language and Cultural Diversity, Teaching Language through Culture, Curriculum and Course Design and Translation Studies. 

She has presented her work on translation in various conferences including the RIA and she has also published work on Francophone Literature. 

Her teaching has included Undergraduate courses (FR0105, FR1101, FR2101, FR4101, FR4106, FR 4108, FR4409) and Postgraduate courses (FR6503, FR6701). 

She is the coordinator of the following modules: FR0105, FR1107, FR4101 (written course), FR4106, FR4108, FR4409 and FR6701. 

She is a member of the Department of French Final Year Committee, the SLLC   EDI Committee, the CACSSS   EDI Committee and the Racial Equality Network. She is also the coordinator of the Student Reading Group for the selection of the Goncourt des étudiant.es irlandais.es 

Christine Montané

University Language Teacher

I am a University Language Teacher in the Department of French within the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at University College Cork. I hold a Master’s degree in Teaching French as a Foreign Language (MFLE, Toulouse) and a Master’s degree in Anglophone Studies (MesL, Toulouse). 
I have contributed to a broad range of programmes and modules, undertaking roles as a course designer, teacher and module coordinator. My current responsibilities include co-convening the core second-year language module FR2101 and convening FR2112: Learning and Teaching French.

My professional interests lie in foreign language pedagogy, particularly curriculum design, student engagement, social justice in education, creative and performative approaches to language teaching and learning. My teaching promotes active participation, critical reflection and intercultural awareness, supporting students in the development of linguistic proficiency while fostering an appreciation of cultural diversity, inclusion and social responsibility.

I currently serve as Chair of the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Committee in the Department of French, working collaboratively with colleagues to support pedagogical innovation and the continuous enhancement of learning and teaching practices.

Matthieu Nivard

University Language Teacher

I joined University College Cork in 2017 as a University Language Teacher, bringing with me experience in teaching French and applied linguistics in France, Denmark, and Ireland.

I hold a BA and MA in Applied Linguistics and French as a Foreign Language, as well as a Certificate in Scandinavian Studies from Université Michel de Montaigne Bordeaux III. My academic focus has been on French morphophonology and the innovative use of pop culture as a pedagogical tool.

My professional interests lie at the intersection of technology and pedagogy, particularly in leveraging social media to enhance language learning, exploring gamification to increase student engagement, and integrating linguistic concepts into my teaching practice.

Currently, I serve as Director of the BA International for the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, and as Year Abroad Coordinator for the BA and BEdGa programmes in the Department of French. I teach across multiple modules in the Department and School, convene LL2108, and co-convene FR1101.

Margot Spencer

Senior University Language Teacher

Margot Spencer is a Senior University Language Teacher in the Department of French and current Director of Teaching & Learning in the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. She teaches French language, French for Specific Purposes (Medical and Legal French), translation, interpreting, and terminology. Her research and pedagogical interests centre on interpreter-mediated communication, particularly in healthcare settings, as well as public service interpreting, language access, and interpreter training. She is particularly interested in simulation-based learning and collaborative approaches that engage students as partners in teaching and research.
