Sexual Violence and Harassment Prevention and Response Manager, UCC.
Biography
Dr Caroline West is the Sexual Violence and Harassment Prevention and Response Manager at UCC. CURRENTLY (in 2026) ON LEAVE. PLEASE CONTACT EDIOFFICE@UCC.IE
Caroline completed her PhD in sexuality studies at DCU in 2020; this research focused on the experiences of women working in the American pornography industry, situated in the context of feminist discourses on pornography. This research explored themes of stigma, violence, and interactions with fans. Caroline also holds an MA in Sexuality Studies, and is interested in the relationship between power, sex, and knowledge. She also holds postgraduate certificates in Cyberpsychology, Psychoanalysis, Stalking Awareness, and Sexual Consent & Health Promotion, and a BA (Hons) in Social Science.
Previous to her role at UCC, which she took up in January 2024, Caroline worked as the Outreach Coordinator for Active* Consent for almost three years and she has over two decades of experience working with victims of abuse in a variety of settings, from refuges to homeless shelters, in Ireland and the UK. Caroline writes academic and pop culture articles on consent and sexuality-related topics and has presented at national and international conferences on sexual violence and sexual pleasure.
She is passionate about creating spaces for calm, informed conversations about sex and consent, and works to reduce shame and stigma around sex in Ireland. Caroline believes that a sex positive approach is crucial for building consent culture, and any efforts to address sexual violence must be inclusive, intersectional, and collaborative.
