Speech by Batt O'Keeffe TD, Minister for Education and Science, at the launch of 'Transformations - What Research Is Doing For Ireland' at the Science Gallery, TCD, Dublin

A total of 250 students representing eight Cork girls’ secondary schools packed the G01 lecture theatre in Brookfield Health Sciences Complex to celebrate this international event on Monday, March 8th 2010.

University College Cork received €8,682,332 or 30% of the €28.8m for funding research infrastructure as announced by Ministers Bruton and English and the SFI.  UCC researchers are leading or involved in eight of the 21 chosen projects.

UCC Professor Anita Maguire has been honoured with admission to the Royal Irish Academy. She joins 482 distinguished Members of the Academy.

An innovative programme developed by UCC and Pfizer was showcased at the recent Final of the Postgraduate Training Module on Creativity and Innovation for Research.

On Wednesday 11th May 2011, The Minister for Research and Innovation Mr Sean Sherlock TD launched new research projects in the biomedical sphere which have been chosen under an innovative new research programme funded by the Johnson & Johnson Corporate Office of Science and Technology (COSAT) and Science Foundation Ireland (SFI).

Dr Dara Fitzpatrick has been nominated by Enterprise Ireland for the ‘One to Watch Award’ ceremony to be held in Dublin on June 23rd next. Mr Conor Lenihan, TD, Minister for Science, Technology, Innovation and Natural Resources will officiate at the event.
