UCC and its partners Alimentary Health and Eli Lilly have been nominated for awards in the inaugural US-Ireland Research Innovation Awards.  The ABCRF in UCC has been nominated for research carried out in collaboration with Eli Lilly based in Kinsale and Indianapolis.

Researchers in the Analytical & Biological Chemistry Research Facility (ABCRF) at UCC led by Anita Maguire, have designed and synthesised a new class of compounds with potential in the discovery of new antiviral drugs.

The ABCRF is delighted to welcome Dr Andrew Whitehead as an adjunct Professor to the ABCRF.

Dr Whitehead is currently the Director of 2nd Generation, GSK in Cork.  His unique position in the Pharmaceutical industry will bring invaluable experience and perspective to our students and researchers in GSK.  Welcome Andy!

UCC host the 31st International Symposium on Chromatography

Following our successful bid to host the 31st International Symposium on Chromatography, ISC2016, in Cork,  on behalf of the Irish Separation Science cluster ( ISSC), Prof. Apryll Stalcup and Prof. Jeremy Glennon presented the Invitation address at ISC2014 Salzburg in September 2014.

Top 10 in Analytical Scientist publication

Dr. Dara Fitzpatrick’s BARDS research team have won an Innovation Award from the Analytical Scientist publication. The BARDS spectrometer is listed as one of the top 10 innovations of the year among global big hitters such as Agilent, Waters, Thermo Fisher and Schimadzu.

David Jones has won the Undergraduate Award in the Chemical & Pharmaceutical Sciences category for his paper entitled “Preliminary Investigation into the Optimization of Sample Systems for the Study of the Vinyl Substitution Reactions of 3(2H)-Furanones” under the supervision of Dr Dan McCarthy, Department of Chemistry UCC.

The ABCRF is delighted to welcome two new Adjunct Professors!

Professors Tony McKervey and John Luong are internationally renowned researchers in Organic Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry respectively.

Their input to the ABCRF will be enormously beneficial to the PhD students and early career researchers within the ABCRF bringing their perspective and experience to the research teams in Cork.
