UCC Engineering PhD student wins at international conference
Siyuan Ye, a PhD student from Dr Guangbo Hao's CoMAR group in the School of Engineering and Architecture, has won the Best Student Paper Award at the International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science (IFToMM) 6th Conference on Mechanisms, Transmissions and Applications in France.
The CoMAR group looks at the theory of Compliant Mechanisms and Robotics (CoMAR) and their applications in Precision Manufacturing, Energy Harvesting, and Medical Devices. Siyuan Ye's work investigated novel Origami-inspired Tubular Compliant Structures that can be used as valves. She is supervised by Dr G. Hao and Dr K. Fatemeh.
The International Federation for the Promotion of Mechanism and Machine Science's (IFToMM) mission is to bring the people from different nationalities and systems together for the exchange of science and the strengthening of international bonds in the general area of mechanism and machine science.
Support is given by promoting national and international conferences in the subject areas of IFToMM, discussing strategies and challenges in 14 open technical committees and three permanent commissions, bestowing of awards, sponsoring young conference participants, inspiring enthusiasm in students for mechanism and machine science through Student Olympiads, and by fostering friendship and common work between regions far across the world for the tackling of tomorrows technical challenges.
