Research: Shortcuts to Adiabaticity

Shortcuts to Adiabaticity

The preparation and control of quantum states in a fast and robust way is of the utmost importance for all future quantum technologies.

One robust state preparation technique is provided by adiabatic processes and this is the reason why adiabatic processes are still ubiquitous in cold atom physics, nuclear magnetic resonance, optics and other fields.
But in many cases the adiabatic processes take too long and become impractical since their slowness makes them extremely sensitive to decoherence and noise. Therefore, a lot of theoretical and experimental activity has started to develop new quantum control techniques by speeding up adiabatic processes while keeping their robustness; this has led to the research field of “Shortcuts to Adiabaticity”. In brief, Shortcuts to Adiabaticity are quantum control schemes motivated by adiabatic processes and mostly derived analytically (see Adv. At. Mol. Opt. Phys. 62, 117-169 (2013) and arxiv.org/abs/1904.08448 for reviews about this research field).

The research group is working in this very promising field of "Quantum Control via Shortcuts to Adiabaticity", we are developing theoretically new shortcut schemes and examining their stability for quantum technologies mainly in the field of quantumoptics.
