UCC and Energy Sense Ireland collaborate on Energy Saving software development
06.10.2009

University College Cork (UCC) and Energy Sense Ireland Ltd (ESI) have announced a strategic partnership agreement supported by Enterprise Ireland to develop Eco software to help manage and reduce power consumed by IT equipment.
Launching the partnership today (October 6th 2009), Dr Brian O’Flaherty (BIS, UCC) commented: “We are delighted to collaborate with a high growth local company that has a global focus and multi-faceted approach to addressing energy consumption concerns.”

ESI director, Mr Seán Cronin welcomed the support of both UCC and Enterprise Ireland for the project, which had its origins in a recent Masters project at the University. Four new research posts were created and filled by the originating team in this new Green IT collaborative venture. Mr Cronin highlighted the urgent need for energy savings within IT departments worldwide to fight global warming and reduce operating costs. “The outcome of the research will form the basis of a future product suite to compliment our existing energy savings solutions which address a worldwide market”, he said.

The project has received significant backing from the Enterprise Ireland Innovation Partnership Programme, an initiative that offers financial support to companies who engage in collaborative research projects with Irish universities.
