16.02.2009

Mr Batt O'Keeffe, Minister for Education and Science, attended a Teaching and Learning session in the Council Room, UCC, on Saturday, February 14th.
The Vice-President for Teaching and Learning, Professor Grace Neville, informed the Minister that 83 UCC colleagues from all four Colleges are currently taking a year-long course in Teaching and Learning (certificate, diploma, masters) in Ionad Bairre, UCC, organised by Dr Bettie Higgs and Ms Marian McCarthy, and that over 200 other colleagues have already completed these courses.

In a wide-ranging address, Minister O'Keeffe complimented the UCC colleagues on their clear commitment to high quality teaching. He stressed the need for interdisciplinary skills in present and future students, and said that the present economic crisis should cause us to step back and evaluate how best to negotiate the way forward. During his visit, he attended part of the session given by Ms Marian McCarthy on “Reading Art in the Glucksman Gallery.”
