UCC has presented 65 students with sports scholarships with archery being recognised for the first time.

The UCC Sports Scholarship is a well-established scheme and in addition to financial support for students, it provides a number of backup supports for the recipients, such as access to a qualified exercise physiologist, and academic support, if required.

In addition to these scholarships, which were presented at a ceremony in the Mardyke Pavilion, five students received UCC Soccer Development Awards; 25 students received the UCC Rugby Development Award, and 19 students were presented with Munster Council GAA bursaries.

Professor John O’Halloran, Deputy President and Registrar, UCC, and Morgan Buckley, Director of Sport and Physical Activity, UCC, presented the students with their awards.

Sixteen sports were recognised at the awards ceremony: archery, athletics, basketball, camogie, Gaelic football, ladies Gaelic football, golf, hockey – men’s and women’s, hurling, orienteering, rowing, rugby, soccer – men’s and women’s, swimming, tennis and volleyball.

The Scholarship Ceremony took place prior to the Quercus Ceremony, which will be held later this month in UCC, at which eight students will receive Quercus Scholarships for their sporting prowess.
