Dr Alan Gibbs wins Peggy O’Brien Book Prize

Alan Gibbs of the School of English was presented with the prize in Dublin this weekend, for his book, Contemporary American Trauma Narratives.

Awarded the Irish Association for American Studies’ Peggy O’Brien Book Prize, which is given to the best monograph in American Studies to be published in the previous two years, Alan Gibbs’s Contemporary American Trauma Narratives explores representations of 9/11, the Iraq War, and other traumas in contemporary American writing. Published in 2014 by Edinburgh University Press, the book was lauded by the judging panel as a ‘brilliantly conceived and eminently readable study of the interplay between American trauma narratives and the critical landscape that has grown up around them … The book offers a timely and important corrective to the self-reinforcing assumptions of this genre’. Dr Gibbs was delighted to receive the award from the vice chair of the Association, Dr Julie Sheridan, at their annual conference in Trinity College, Dublin, this weekend.
