2018 Summer PhD and MRes Conferrings

On Friday, 15 June 2018, Dr Stephen Heaphy, Dr Romika Kumari and Dr Jennifer Moloney from the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology were conferred with their PhD degrees and Conor Dolan and Begona Zapateria Gomez from the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology were conferred with their MRes (Master of Research) degrees.

Dr Stephen Heaphy conducted his postgraduate research under the supervision of Dr Pavel Baranov, School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, UCC and his thesis is entitled “Recoding and reassignment in protists”.  Dr Romika Kumari conducted her postgraduate research under the supervision of Dr Pavel Baranov, School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, UCC and her thesis is entitled “RNA G-quadruplexes and polyamines effects on translation:  data analysis and development of software for ribosome pause prediction”. Dr Jennifer Moloney conducted her postgraduate research under the supervision of Professor Tom Cotter, School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, UCC and her thesis is entitled “Redox Signalling in Myeloid Leukaemia”.

At the same graduation ceremony, Conor Dolan and Begona Zapateria Gomez from the School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology were conferred with their MRes (Master of Research) degrees. Conor Dolan conducted his postgraduate research under the supervision of Dr Eoin Fleming, School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, UCC and his thesis is entitled “The regulation of protein degradation at the endoplasmic reticulum”. Begona Zapateria Gomez conducted her postgraduate research under the supervision of Dr Justin McCarthy, School of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, UCC and her thesis was entitled “Tumour-associated antigen Epcam signalling molecules as immunodiagnostics of primary and metastatic human breast cancers”.

The conferring address was delivered by Professor Barry O’Sullivan, Professor of Computer Science & Director of the Insight Centre for Data Analytics, Computer Science, University College Cork, Ireland.
